Marlin 982VS .22 mag a good gun?

We sell more of the stainless/laminated .17HMR rifles than the .22 magnums but that is no indication that the .22 Magnum is a bad gun, this is just where the market trend is leaning right now.
Marlin Bolt rifles are some of the best guns, at an affordable price, on the market right now.
If you want one, there are no quality issues that would prevent you from buying it.
 
I have a Marlin 25MN and am very happy with it. Same thing with a Marlin Model 60 in .22lr.

Marlin may not be the most expensive maker of .22s, but there aren't any flies on them, as a whole.

You won't be making a mistake by getting one, if that's what you're worried about.
 
I have a model 917,which is the same gun but chambered for 17HMR, and I really like it. I am sure it would serve you well.
