Back in April of this year, I started this thread:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=749366
.. regarding having just acquired a pre-68 Glenfield 75, which, according to the feedback I got from you all here, should be a good and solid rifle.
I say "should be" because I simply haven't gotten around to trying it out. But, I did learn a bit about the model, which is a somewhat-stripped-down version of a Marlin carbine that was made to resemble the M1 carbine.
I really like the heft and feel of the 75C, but got to check out the Marlin it's based on, the 99M1, at the LGS yesterday. They had one in that they were asking $160 for. I left it there, despite being intrigued with it, and ended up back there today to see if it was still there. I was kind of hoping it wasn't because I did wallet damage there yesterday in buying a new stainless Taurus M94 revolver.
But, it was, and I took that as a sign. Now, it's home with me, and I sure hope I get to try it out somewhere soon (along with the other .22 rimfires I've acquired this year, which include the Taurus, a Henry lever gun, and the Glenfield.) It's clean and has all of its finish, but the wood appears somewhat dried out, looking and feeling more like the birch from which the Glenfield is made rather than the walnut used in the Marlins. I'll find some good wood soak oil and try to bring it out some.
I hope I get the performance out of these most of you who have opined on them say I should..
EDIT: The Glenfield is a model 75; there is no "C" designation.
