I been hearing rumors Marlin was going to drop teir web page and they did it . I'm p#%$ed I spent a lot of great hours surfing their forum and learned a lot. The Marlin forum got me interested in leverguns and I purchased an 1894C. I had plans for more Marlins in the future but I feel like I've been stabbed in the back. For me Wins or Pumas when I get ready to buy a new levergun.

So, uh, why exactly are they obligated to continue the forum? I mean, it was nice of them to have one and all, and it really sucks that it's gone, but I'm not sure I get your point.

I really like coming here to THR, but if Oleg woke up tomorrow and said "You know, this is costing me money I just can't afford right now." and decided to shut it down I really couldn't complain.

As long as Marlin continues to sell high quality products and offer decent service I'll continue to be their customer.

Maybe the lawyers had a hand in it. Whatever the reason it's bad business, typical of too many US firearm manufacturers.

That's not quite the same.

We aren't Oleg's customers, and he's not providing this site as a perq to his customers.

Marlin was providing that site to help their customers learn about their rifles, and also to assist potential customers in their decision making process.

Still, it is certainly Marlin's right to kill the forums. And, it's also the right of anyone who gets mad about it to stop buying Marlin products.

IMO, both actions are a bit extreme.

Marlin did VERY little moderation of the forums (I suspect so that they could say that anything on it wasn't their fault) but the result was predictable. On occasion there were people posting explosive reload recipes, using Marlin's own site to bash Marlin and their products, and posting all manner of general nonsense. I'll bet that some lawyer got to looking at the content, decided that there was liability and made a proposal.

Used to like it myself but it became a plce for people to btch about thier marlins and complain how marlin didn't make this or didn't make that. Don't balme 'em for getting rid of it. At least they gave it a shot. Only other manufacturer that I know of that has is Benelli and that's quite a small group there. I bought one marlin 2 yrs ago and won't hesitate to consider another.
Besides just how mauch can be discussed about the few models that Marlin makes anyways?

mattkc,

Uh... and where are the Winchester and Puma forums that have gained your allegience?

Marlin didn't have to provide a free forum - most manufacturers don't. Sure, I wish it was still there, but it was free.

It was a great place to talk Marlin talk. Im going to miss it, I may actually try a winchester now. Dont have anything against them just never tried them.

I have only recently become interested in rifles.

I was considering both Winchester and Marlin lever actions.

The information available on the Marlin forum convinced me to buy an 1894 in 45 Colt.

I'm now interested in a 30-30 lever. I'll miss the information. Maybe I'll get a Winchester this time.

It is their right to pull the forum. I suspect it will cost them some sales and good will.

Brad

I like Marlin Rifle allot more then the Winchester. For me it all has to do with how the spent shells are ejected. Marlin rifles go out the side while Winchesters go out the top.

It also helps that I have an original 1894 30-30. It is is 100+ years old and still shoots like the day it was bought.

I only learned of it a short while ago; one of the guys here linked to it. Considering I've been a Marlin fan for years I don't think that it really will bother me. Considering their product is so good, I don't hink it will hurt them in the long run. My 2 cents.

Steve W13 Win and Puma didn't get me hooked on a fun site and then dump it. In other words they didn't P@#% me off. I tend to be a loyal customer they did nothing to try to correct any problems and wouldn't even give a honest reason to kill the site. They also removed the e-mail contact so they don't have to hear from their customers. A company that can't treat their customers with respect doesn't deserve my money. I think the way they handled it was cowardly.

Marlin/NEF/H&R

I never went to the Marln side but did look in on and get on a couple of threads on the NEF side.

Sure, there was the bad load stuff but someoe usually cut it off at the knees.

There was at least one light hearted guy who thought the Handi in "30-06 was good for everything from mose to squill(not typo's)

The handi rifle is in many cases a new shooters(I mean brand new) first rifle. Several members on the board were more than gracious to share their (how to fix that) information with each newbi

I think the Handi in its varried forms is a great little platform. I have a number of very high priced single shots and the little Handi Rifle in many calibers, after a bit of tinkering, can shoot right up there.

I just bought two rimfre 17's in the bull bbl model for my wife and I to "play" around with. Good bbl breakin proceedure and some trigger work (we both like triggers in the oz's as opposed to lbs) and they both shoot under a dime at 100 and are getting better. For a gun that costs less than $150.00 (less scope) what more could you ask for.

I am sorry to see the forum gone. I hope it springs up somewhere.

Hey! Here is an idea for those who miss the Official Marlin Talk...form your own UNOFFICIAL MARLIN TALK site. Not my cup of tea but hey if you like talking about MArlins that much then go for it!

I'll sure miss Marlintalk. I'm not sure where else I'll keep contact with all of my buds from that forum. Feels a little like I just lost some family members.
