Marlin front sight

I have a Glenfield model 25 with no front sight. I can't find a full picture online of the rifle to see what the front sight looks like. The rear sight is still there, and I want to be able to get good with my irons than becoming dependent on the scope mounted on the gun.

When I look closely, about an inch from the end of the barrel there is a small horseshoe shaped cut, almost like a stamp. I'm wondering if this was where the front sight was. It's too small to get a clear picture with a camera, but I will keep trying.

I want to know what the original front sight was, and the costs and options of putting a front sight on. The included attachment is the only picture online, and doesn't show the whole gun. I'm just hoping it will help identify the model I'm talking about.

Gun Parts Corporation carry parts for the Marlin Glenfield Model 25 bolt action.

The new style front sight appears to be the standard Marlin ramp base, attached to the barrel with two screws, the front sight itself, and the sight hood.

The old style front sight uses some type of "binding screw" and a sight with a brass bead.

Am I correct in thinking both of these sight would require a gunsmith to install?
So I need parts 18-21. Font sight bead is $8.50!?

Where it says P= press in sights, what is it referring to?


Also, are there aftermarket front sights that are compatible and won't require drilling or a gunsmith?

Parts 18-21, less the hood #20, on my Glenfield model 20 are plastic. Not having a model 25 in front of me.. Looking at the part numbers they're the same. You shouldn't need a gunsmith.

The ramp actually slides over the end of the barrel. There is a single allen set screw at the top center that holds it all in.

Mine, Parts 18 & 21 are one piece.

So, since mine only has one set screw, the question would be whether there are any, or how many screw holes in your barrel?

I'm sure there are more than one configuration.

I'll send you a photo of mine if you'd like, but it appears that there's a bit of difference. Never the less, I would figure that you should be able to install the front sight yourself.

The link appears to be a mistake on Gun Parts case. Those are High Standard sights which I doubt will fit your Glenfield.

You mentioned a "horseshoe shaped mark" on your barrel.
I'd suspect that's where the screw for the slip-over type front sight was torqued down.

Set screws usually leave these small marks where they were tightened down.

Phunny... As cheap as that old model 20 was. $60 at a pawn shop, it's the gun that hangs above the door in my shop out back. Plastic trigger and trigger guard.. Still, with that little Tasco 4x rimfire scope on top, she's good out to 100yds or better for local vermin. I got to looking at it, Hmm...? I think I can make this trigger a bit better. There's enough metal to make a step trigger... Hmm... And the rifling still looks good after all these years and thousands of rounds. The beachwood with the pressed in squirls.. That's gotta go. Maybe momma's right. I can't leave anything alone.

From your descriptions the mark is definitely from a set screw. Thanks for the help.
