What is it that makes one a "Mountie"?

Is it the straight lever?

Agreeing with Steve above on the peep-sight.

I had a nice 3-9 scope on mine and took it off as the rifles are so dogged accurate that it actually got a little boring with optics so I went back to irons. In particular, my little D.W. King rear.

Todd.
Yeah, they had the straight stock and a shorter barrel, thinner forend. I put a receiver sight on mine and it shot lights-out, getting lots of red squirrels around the camp and rats in the town dump (it was 1965 and there were still open-burning dumps). I miss the fun, but not the smoke.

My newer .39A may have been made the day before a labor strike. The receiver top wasn't 90 degrees to the sides, the sights weren't at the top of the receiver. The scope mount screw holes weren't all lined up straight. The extractor didn't extract well. It still shot well, though...and it was a deluxe model, so it looked really great.
