Another option would be to put a Williams or Marbles sight back on the receiver or the tang. In most cases, the factory rear sight is replaced by a blank when going to those other sights.

Hi heres a question for all the gun experts what size is the rear dovetail for a marlin 1894 44 mag and is it the same as a ruger1022 rear dovetail?

I've used most of the big ones, I really like the Skinners because they don't mess up the feel of the gun for me. The side mount sides make a thin rifle bulky to me. I've got a couple of his sights, mainly the express and Alaskan models. My 1894P in 44 mag wears a 'winged rear.'

I like the Williams for adjustability, low cost, and the ability to retain the front sight. Skinners are a little sleeker. Skinner lo-pro is pretty nice and you can still use factory front sight.

They are both a 3/8" (.375") dovetail. Something to keep in mind is dovetail blanks are intentionally made slightly oversize so some filing is needed. That is also to say a 3/8" dovetail cut from one rifle may not just fit another rifle. Additionally consider the alloy a dovetail blank is made from.
