Marlin Levers still suffering from QC issues?

I've been looking for a deal on a pre-lock 336 for several months, and after all the research I've done, I wouldn't touch a Rem-lin unless it was just given to me.
And though I keep hearing about folks stumbling onto killer deals, I can't seem to find even close to one. I lost a Gunbroker auction just last week on a nice '78. A local pawnshop that sells on GB, and our local Armslist always has "nearly mint" 336's all the time, but of course, they're always Rem-lins, and unlikely to be one of those rare "good one's".

Took a chance on one of the 336 y's. The chamber was scored so bad some brass wouldn't eject. The stocks worked lose immediately. To Marlin's credit they replaced the barrel and stock with better. Don't believe the new barrel has the rem marking, as it is stamped S then space then KG ?

Good grief, Helotaxi, I can see the action - barrel mis-alignment in your photo! Might be a photo artifact, but the receiver appears to be canted down from the barrel. No wonder it shoots low with a scope.

That's sad.

The rail makes it look bad. It's only a degree and not visible when looking at the rifle. That said, the mistake is there and it would take completely replacing the rifle to fix it...Bambi didn't know the difference, though ;)
