Are these rare at all? I see one for sale locally. I used to know a guy that had a Marlin pump shotgun I'm not sure of the model and he tried to tell me Marlin only made a few pump shotguns and they were worth large amounts of money but he'd never sell his. I came home and looked them up on gunbroker and realized he was full of crap. I now see one for sale locally for $250 that isn't or hasn't sold in the last few days. Are these things rare? I notice I only see 2 on gunbroker. Or are these pretty common guns? Good guns or are they crappy?

Well, they aren't common.

And they aren't made any more.

Kinda only leaves room for one conclusion in my book, YMMV of course.

I have a friend who has a Marlin 120 and it is a nice field grade pump. It was made at a time when Savage, Stevens, Noble, Ted Williams, and various other manufacturers were making guns in the sixties and seventies, and probably a little earlier as well.

Thinks got a little tight after 1968 and a lot of manufacturers peaked out later in the seventies and eighties.

Things changed with gun designs that were too costly to make like the Model 12 Winchester pump shotgun and the Browning auto-5.

They gave way to the Winchester 1200 and 1300 series gun to replace the Model 12 and Browning came out with the Gold series shotgun.

High Standard is another make that comes to mind and Ithaca seems to be up and down.

Now the American makers are jobbing out to overseas concerns and importing guns to sell.

Getting back to the Marlin, it's not in the same class as a Winchester Model 12 but it is a decent field grade shotgun and if in good shape, will work fine for taking game.:)
