I saw a couple of used Marlin and Savage Used Shotguns for sale for around $200 - $300. Does anybody have experience with these brands of shotguns? They are long barreled, 12 Gauge, pump action, will fit 3" shells, ribbed and used, but still look okay. Thought they might make good for hunting and skeet. Any tips?

Around here (michigan) Savage pumps go for $150 in good condition. I have personally owned the model 67 in 12 and 20. Both served well. They were made to use,not to look at.Quality is good but not like a remington. For 200 to 300 you should IMO seek a used wingmaster or new 870 express. As for the marlin pump I cannot comment as I have no personal experience nor have I seen any for sale.

My brother had a Savage pump about 20 years ago. Kicked like a mule but it was accurate and reliable. It patterned so well at the local turkey shoot with whatever the factory fixed choke was that people demanded his gun be checked, even though he was all of 12 years old at the time. He won some cash, a ham, and a turkey, IIRC...
