I inherited a Marlin model 60. I took it out to shoot last week and discovered that I could not get the rod out of the magazine. I tried to unscrew the rod near the muzzle and it was stuck. Anyone have any suggestions? I really want to try this gun out.

If it would turn and still not come out the magazine tube or the tube containing the spring is probably bent or has a dent in it keeping it from coming out. Atleast thats my guess. If it won't turn at all it might be seized due to corrosion or lube residue that has turned into glue.
I would remove it from the stock and give it a good dose of a solvent to try and break it free but not using so much force as to damage anything. Though its not advertised as gun solvent PB Blaster will clear dang near anything that might be seizing it. If that doesn't work or you have already tried some form of solvent or lubrication to no avail I would say a trip to a gunsmith is in order.

I think you should post a pic of the top of the tube, i've never seen on that screws in most are held in by a small pin (for lack of a better term).

I have never handled a Marlin model 60 before, so I'm not sure if it's stuck or what. I tried to unscrew the rod. It looks like it has a grip to unscrew it. It did not move when I tried. I also tried to use pliers to unscrew it but I was afraid I would damage it if I tried too hard. Am I going about this the right way?

on the left is a marlin 60 the right is a rem 34
turn the rod to move the pin out of the l slot

Is this rod supposed to unscrew easily? Is there a button or something I'm supposed to do before I take out the magazine rod? Can someone who owns a marlin model 60 glenfield describe the process of loading one? I'm assuming that I need to take the rod out and slide the bullets into the tube under the barrel.

If it's anything like mine, it doesn't exactly unscrew; there should be a pin sticking out of the inner tube that sits in a dog-leg cut-out on the outer tube. You need to rotate the inner tube just enough to get the pin free of the dog-leg, and then it'll pull right out. The inner tube has to move in towards the receiver in order for that to happen because of spring tension holding the pin in the dog-leg. If everything is clean and slick, just turning the inner tube is enough to get it to move that way, but if things are a bit rusty and sticky, you might have to push the inner tube in hard before you'll be able rotate it.

If you can't get it out---go to Marlins website & download manual for model 60.
Has complete instructions to disassemble weapon--you may have to drive it out from
the breech side---clean weapon while you are at it.
This rifle gets extremely dirty from shooting...................................

The best way to clean this rifle ( after disassembly ) is to spray all the parts with Gun Scrubber by Beachwood Casey--spray over a bucket.....................
