So my Marlin model 60 I've had for a few years is currently in an unusable state.
The trigger guard as deteriorated to a point were the smaller screw holding the rifle together will not hold anymore due to the deterioration.
First off, this is how the trigger guard is supposed to look, photo from Midway USA:
* * * * *
Now for some photos I just took of the troubled trigger assembly. It is crumbling like plastic left out in the sun:

I found the part at ($18.79) plus shipping at Midway USA
* * * * *
And now to my question. Was this caused by defective materials/workmanship? I have not knowingly abused the rifle in any way. It has not been in the sun unless I was carrying it. I have in the past tried to fix it with some type of adhesive, don't quite remember what. That worked for almost a year, until it came apart completely today.
