With the recent "walmart marlin 60 thread" I was wondering about the 795.. It looks similar to the 60 but regular magazine fed.. Is it the same gun more or less? I have shot many marlin 60's but never touched a 795.. For the money the model 60 is a great little gun.. How does the 795 stack up to the 60? Anybody have any real experiance with both?

EDIT:::: I found some threads in search.. Looks to be mixed on if they are as good.. Anymore opinions would be great

model 795

I have a marlin 795, and I love it. Its reliable and never malfunctions. I have about 4000 rounds through it. I got it at Gander Mt. For $150 As a scope/gun combo. It's quite acurate with federal's cheap bulk pack ammo. The only problem I have with it is it doesn't have any add on's like cool aftermarket stocks or extended magazines. But overall it's a great firearm.

Looking for a 795SS to buy with my Xmas card money right now.

Would like to screw a Williams FP-GR onto it and take it to an Appleseed sometime this year.

I have a Marlin 60SS and a 795SS. My model 60s had some issues when I 1st got it, they are now resolved. I ended up getting a 795 during the issues with my model 60 been very happy with the 795. My 795 is a little more accurate then my model 60. My model 60 has a laminated stock that I like better over the plastic stock on my 795. But I shoot the 795 the most because of the better accuracy. Also the 795 has been the most reliable for me of the two. Typical 22 semi auto both cycle their best with high velocity ammo. That my experience with the 795.

I don't doubt that you would be happy with either. I have a 60 and enjoy it. My main complaint is loading it. It takes a while to load those 16 rounds through the tube and I don't enjoy having my hand near the muzzle. You do get 16 rounds though. The 795 I shot (a friend's gun) shot well and loading from a magazine was nice, but you don't get as many rounds. That said, I would not mind having one of my own and would probably shoot it more since loading is not as big a pain in the butt.
I would go to a shop and handle both. Both are solid .22s and neither will let you down.

I recently acquired a model 795. I love it. It shoots like a laser even at 100 yards. Even being a relatively poor shoot, I can shoot a half dollar sized group at 100 yards with only the cheap federal bulk pack. As for the ability to customize the weapon, I added an after market bi-pod and a sling. I find that the ability to customize a weapon is limited only by the creativity of the owner. The sights are adjustable and it came with a 4x scope when I got it.

Hi Guys,
The accessories are a little short for these rifles, but Tech-SIGHTS has just came out with the "GI" type sighting system for the Marlin 60 and 795. It makes a great rifle when you get a good set of irons on them.

same gun, just mag fed. however, you can do a bit more of tweeking with a 795. killer stocks in laminate , for both hunting or benchrest. Swab the bbl, to find it's tightest spot, then cut and recrown there, easier to freefloat the bbl. It has some nice advantages to it, if you like to tweek, and then of course you have to say on paper, theorhetically, it has to be more accurate. You proly cnnot tell with the naked eye, you would proly need to graph and chart it, run it through a computer prgm., to show reall diffs in group sizes, but according to physics, should be more accurate. i would not hesitate to get one, of if I could find a 7000, or a 795 that had the built in laser optics in the stock, Only 8 of those made factory , I think...

As others have mentioned, the 60 is not quite as easy to load. I have both the 60 and 795 and I bought the 795 because with the 60, holding the magazine follower, walking through the bushes, and loading more rounds was a hassle. With the 795 i bought extra clips and can now just reload on the go. The 795 also has swivel rings for a sling so that you can throw it over the shoulder and reload clips without having to find a place to set down your equipment. This was always an issue with tube fed magazine follower. Unless you dont mind a little dirt in your action from time to time.

Hey, could you guys knock it off? I already have two 60s. If I bring home a 795 (which you're convincing me I need) the wife is gonna draw-down on me.
