Howdy, I was poking around the local gunshop this afternoon and I picked up an old Marlin bolt action 22 single shot for about $50. The gun isn't in great shape finish wise, but I plan on restoring it and giving it to my wife for Christmas. I've been looking around for an inexpensive single shot 22 for her and this seemed like the ideal candidate.

My question is I don't know how old it is, I'm just kind of curious since it doesn't have a serial number or any model designation. The only markings on it are

The Marlin Firearms Corporation
New Haven Conn. U.S.A-Patented

It also has the markings

22 S L & LR

It looks like either a birch or walnut stock, simple triggerguard, plated trigger and plain steel buttplate. It doesn't look like it's all that new, I suspect at least 50's, but figure someone here should have a better idea. I know it isn't a valued antique, but I'm just curious what it is and any history. Any information would be appreciated.

I've still got my Marlin 60 marked as a Western auto Revelation, not single shot I know but there are tons of vintage marlins about these days.

Thanks for the information, it is very similar to the model 10 shown in the pictures; however, the one I have looks older. The front and rear sights are both dovetailed, the stock design is simpler with no checkering, and it is a simple sheet metal triggerguard. Thanks again.
