For a while I've been on the lookout for a lever action rifle just for the sake of having one, since I use to like shooting Dad's Winchester 94. A guy I work with had an intresting piece for sale. It's a Glenfield Model 30 Golden 50 in 30-30 win. It looks just like a Marlin 336 but it's a Glenfield. The only Marlin markings on the rifle is, "The Marlin Firearms Company, North Haven, Conn. U.S.A". I find very little reference to Glenfield Model 30 Golden 50 anywhere on the internet. Any Marlin/Glenfield collecters with any info are welcome to chime in. It's used and I had to reblue the steel and refinish the stock but for $100 I thought it would make a good truck gun. Just a little saturday morning show and tell.

Thats not really a left hand ejection is it?
Glenfields were made by marlin and sold under the Glenfield name by K-mart. I'm not sure but I bet the S/N is from Marlin.
Looks like yours has pressed design on the wood, probably birch.

No, it is not a left handed firearm. I reversed the photo for kicks to see if anyone would noticed. :D Yes, the stock is pressed. I read somewhere on the internet that these rifles were made for the Otasco stores some years ago. I've never seen an Otasco store. Nor do I know if this it true or not.

The Otasco (Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company, or something like that) models, I believe, had four-digit model numbers, 30+last two digits of year of manufacture, e.g., 3083 for one made in 1983. They also had medallions on the stock for the "commemorative" of that year (Alamo, Pony Express, that sort of thing).

Your Golden 30 is no doubt something along those lines, maybe produced for KMart or Western Auto or some other discount chain.

I personally think some of these rifles are quite attractive, with the blond wood and all.

It probally is a Kmart special. It has an 8 digit serial number and no other markings other than those I posted above. Never the less it's a old lever action I am sure to enjoy to the fullest. I think I am looking forward to reloading for it more than shooting it at this point. I have had my hands on lever action 30-30's before but that was way before I got into reloading.

Marlin-Glenfield Model 30 - Same as Marlin 336C except .30-30 only. Plainer stock of walnut-finished hardwood. Made '66-'68.

Marlin-Glenfield Model 30A - Checkered. Made '69 to date.

The 50? Beats me. Somebody's anniversary. The 336 came out in '48 IIRC.

I've got one just like it, but a little more beat up. Yes, the stocks are birch, which is fine with me. Mine was yellowed so I sanded it and gave it a linseed oil finish. Other than the stocks, it is just like any other 336, accurate and reliable.

I think they were made in '72.

Golden 50

Golden Boy and Golden 50 are not the same. I saw a Glenfield Model 65 this Monday in Welston Pawn in Warner Robins marked Golden 50. It had a brass, unfinished feed tube. The owner said the Golden 50 was an anniversary edition. With a few small changes cosmetically, it was just like a Marlin Model 60.

Marlin Golden Anniversary Model 30

My brother called today. He has a Glenfield Model 30 that his wife presented to him for a birthday gift in 1968. It is a Golden 50 Anniversary model. 30-30 lever action.

He said it has been fired mabe 4 or 5 times.

Because I don't know a lot about rifles, thought I'd ask.

He wonders now if it is an antique and what it may be worth.

Thanks for any input.

Talk about ressurecting a old dead thread, wow. I actually gave the gun I bought to my step father for a birthday gift. He loved it. Even in new condition, the rifle you ask about isn't worth a whole lot. Maybe in another 50 years in the same condition it might be.

i have a glenfeild model 30a. it came with a 4 x 32 glenfeild scope. i bought it @ J.C.Penney many, many years ago (late 70's). i suspect that a lot of discount stores sold them. i bought mine on sale, and then got my employee discount on top of that. i think i paid like $89.00 for it, and 2 boxes of shells. ahh, the good old days. of course, that was a whole weeks wages then also.
