I've got a sudden yen to get one of Marlin's new short-barreled .30-30's for fun and perhaps for black bear. I had a very used Marlin Glenfield (?) years back, but that was the only Marlin .30-30 I've owned.

Anyone have one of these? They look like loads of fun.

Hunting buddy of mine has one. Very quick rifle, very agile. XS makes a scout scope system that'd fit right nice. I'm gonna catch flack for a scope on a lever gun I know but anywho. Nice gun. We're heading to the range tomarrow(fri) so i'll get you a range report.

Cosmoline,

I have one. Haven't shot it, yet. I also ordered a full-length stock for it, from Marlin. I wanted a 16" .30-30, but with full-length stock, so this I got this with the intention of converting it.

I'll also put a ghost ring sight on it and a leather Milt Sparks butt-cuff.

Well its no sniper rifle but he was pretty proficcient at 15 and 25yards. He suffered pretty bad at like 50 but the Marlin iron sights are to blame there. Ghost rings would've been nice.

Kjay, the full-length butt-stock will add another inch or inch-and-a-half of pull. Gun is billed as more of a youth model, as is.:)

OK that makes sense now. At first I was thinking a full length forearm stock. I have a 94 with a musket length stock and like the look.
