Why doesn't Marlin have a take-down version of their 336? Anyone have any inside info/insight? Does the Marlin action make a take-down version too difficult/costly to make? I'd love one in 30-30 (or a take-down 1894c in .357), but don't need a custom/premium version -- like the beautiful "Co-Pilot" examples from WildWestGuns...

Any hope they'll release a take-down version in the next few years?

I know Winchester just announced a couple of new take-down versions of the '94 Timber Scout and the Short Hunter. But I'm really happy with my 1894c and would like to stick to Marlin (plus, who knows what Winchester availability/quality will be like after USRAC's recent announcement about stopping production). :uhoh:

Thanks for your opinions

Thanks Rockstar. I've seen the online catalogs, and know what's presently available. I'm more curious if Marlin might produce take-down versions of their 336 (or 1894) in the near future, and if not, why not....

Interesting twist, on the Winchester side. Two days ago, the take-down Timber Scout and Short Hunter were on Winchester's website. See:

Today, they're gone http://tinyurl.com/d33m2 :scrutiny:

See the other post on Winchester not making 94's anymore.

Yep, already knew about it (see my opening post), but found it interesting that they've removed those two models from their website. I figure they've decided not to produce any, as opposed to ramping up production just to suspend it when the CT plant shuts down...

Well, given that Marlin hasn't seen fit to produce a takedown version of their 1893 action in the last one hundred and thirteen years or so, I'm not sure that I'd hold my breath for them getting to it any time soon. :D

Yeah, I know. I was just hoping/dreaming that they might come out with one to compete with Winchester's recently announced takedown 94s. But, seems like that's kind of unneccessary now...as the latest version of "Winchester" fades into the sunset.

Okay, so the consensus is Marlin will never offer a take-down version. What are my other options? I see that a takedown conversion from Wild West Guns would set me back at least $550. Any other possibilities?

Here's what I'm looking for: a truck/trunk/box gun, preferably in 30-30 or .357. (or .308). I'm a lefty and really like lever-actions, but would be open to other types of actions too. The kicker is that the longest piece, when broken down, has to be < 20", and I am not looking for a single shot. Any ideas?

Thanks.
