My buddy has trouble with the tubular magazine on his Marlin (Model 60??) .22 rifle. When the gun is fired, the mag "vibrates" loose and backs out. Is there an easy fix for this? Is a new magazine required?
If memory serves me right (I haven't played with a Marlin for years) there is a little notch at the end of the rotary slot in the outer tube that the locking pin in the inner tube should fit in. The spring pressure of the inner tube should push the pin solidly into the notch stopping it from vibrating out. You might try either deepening the notch if there is one or making a notch if one doesn't exist. Use a small round swiss file. When properly done you will have to push in slightly on the inner tube to clear the notch before attempting to twist it to the open position.
Thanks guys. The problem is the entire mag comes out. The little pin in the end looks worn. How does it come out? I tried knocking it out with no success, maybe I need to try again. This rifle is a family heirloom, so getting a new one is not an option.
