Hi have a marlin 39 octagone barrel with 5 digit serial #, has the pistol grip.
2 questions how can i date this gun and where can i get highend stocks for this

You may want to move your post to the "Firearms Research" section of the board. Also, pictures would help.

The star is a Marlin proof mark

and, contrary to what some people think, it is not a sign of a gun returned to factory for repair, etc. The Brophy reference states that for some years every gun that left the Marlin factory had the star to show that it was a fully inspected and approved, quality Marlin firearm. About the stocks.....if you replace the wood, keep the original, of course to put back on in case you, or the next owner wishes to.
