Maryland non-resident ccw?

My daughter is moving to Maryland(job related), and checking out packing.org's web-site I see Maryland offers non-resident ccw permits. Considering the "hoops" a resident has to go thru to get a ccw, what in God's name do you have to be to get a non-resident ccw?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but basically, you'd have to suck up to the Superintendent of the State Police and convince him that you routinely carry massive amounts of valuables in the course of your daily business in and out of the state or that someone in MD has/is actively trying to kill you.

Better to get well acquainted with a local sheriff and/or politically connected, make big campaign contributions, get them to vouch for your character and provide some sort of proof that you carry lotsa valuables and people are after you. It's only a little less subjective [ne:corrupt?] than CA.

FWIW, I own property in So MD, have looked into this a bit, and have decided I ain't likely to retire there.

Where in maryland is she moving and where is her job.

Has she considered moving into any of the states surrounding maryland instead (Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia)? All are light years better than maryland in terms of owning firearms and carrying firearms. Really, she would have to go to the District of Columbia or Jersey to find a worse situation nearby.

Depending on where in Maryland she is working, she is never really more than 30 minutes (there are only a few places - mostly on the eastern shore - that are too far to commute to) from the border of another state that actually recognizes the existance of the second amendment. I've been tracking the great advances Virginia has made over the last year at the Countertop Chronicles. Others have the rest of the region covered (see, in particular, Geek With a .45 for how bad Jersey is and how great Pennsylvania is)

I have seen one Maryland CCW permit in my entire life, and the owner was a state-licensed private investigator. I would expect that a non-resident permit would be at least as difficult to acquire.

Still, the pro-CCW forces in MD are optimistic. Watch this spot...

Ok, now that I've had my great laugh for the month......

CCW is more reare than Black Plague in Maryland.

As Chris hinted, we're working EXTREMELY hard to change that in next year's legislative session.

I'm afraid the anti's will counter with a state AWB for the CCW.

Please let us know which area she will be working in, almost every point in the state is reachable by a 45 minute commute. I'm just living another year or two in an apartment (have to wait for the mandatory promotions so I'll have a lot more $$$ available) before I snag a house over the state line in either Delaware or Pennsylvania.

one "loophole" to the CCW law

If you are active law enforcement you get a free pass on the application's
"good and substantial reason for a permit" requirement and are supposed to be granted a permit, no questions asked, that same day you apply.

There have been at least two reported incidents in MD where off-duty, out-of-state (non-MD) LEO's shot and killed criminals who attacked them.

Thats news to me; I was denied a couple of years ago because my NYS permit is restricted to hunting and target practice only. Apparently, your home state permit cannot have any restrictions placed on it if you want to get one of their non-res permits.
