I applied for an LTC Class A lisense over 7 weeks ago in my home state of massachusetts. Does anyone know how long it takes before I get a response?

I know the law states that I should receive a response within 40 days, but it's been over 50 days now, and the police department is telling me that it's the holidays that are the delay.

Could anyone from massachusetts or someone in the know, tell me how long it took them to receive their lisence? I'm just wondering if I should be a bit more patient, or assume that I've been denied and file a petition for a judicial review.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I received my Mass LTC within three weeks and picked it up on the fourth week. I would imagine that the holidays could be to blame for a delay. The PD I got mine from told me that he always gets his approved applications back within three weeks.

I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if the PD has it sitting somewhere and somebody forgot about it either accidently or purposely. I have a friends who took 8 weeks in CT.

Smiley, how long ago did you apply for your LTC?

You Said:
"I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if the PD has it sitting somewhere and somebody forgot about it either accidently or purposely."

Why would the PD want to forget about it on purpose? Is there something I should be aware of? :scrutiny:

Thanks for your help.

P.S. If there is anyone else out there with a Massachusetts LTC, I would like to know how long it took you to receive it.

WalHam - I believe mine took about eight weeks and I'm in a real small town with a CCW-friendly police chief.

Hang in there!

Edited to add: a small Massachusetts town...

islander-11, thanks. That's good to know. I'm not sure if my Police Chief is CCW friendly, but the detective I spoke to, pretty much told me that it's quite easy to receive it. I just hope I didn't mess up my chances by calling him up inquiring about my lisence twice.

Thanks again.

I applied teh last week in October and received it the second to last week in Nov.

I only say that the PD may have "lost it" because I am a fairly cynical person. Also because when I spoke to the PD I went to about my friend who took 8 weeks. He said that he doesn't beleive the process itself took 8 weeks. he beleived that the PD was just stalling for some reason. Of course my friend who took, 8 weeks was in the AF and guarded nukes most of his time in. So I figured that he was pretty clean to begin with so it probably had something more to do with the Chief's attitude towards individual people.

Of course I could be completely off baase and have no idea what I am talking about.

Take into accoutn that the holidays have people go on vacation for one or two weeks at a time and your application could be sitting on someones desk while they are away. Also the FBI background checks would be taking longer I would imagine since they are kind of busy right now looking for a way to not screw up.

Applied for my licence to carry in August, took three weeks. I asked for a Class A, citing dangers of a woman going to and from my car to an empty, unlit parking lot at night. No dice. Mentioned needing to find employment at night in the North End and the dangerous tunnel of walking. No dice. The rapes in the North End. No dice. Mentioned wanting the class A for employment purposes (which was true, looking for armed security work). No dice. Think I have a chance of getting my Class B changed to an A? No chance!:fire: :cuss:

Mastrogiacomo, did you apply in Boston? I've heard that it's extremely difficult to get a Class A in Boston.

I actually live an hour (or half hour depending on how fast you're driving:D ) north of the city. If it's "very difficult" in Boston, it's impossible without a high price lawyer in Peabody.:fire:

Mine took about a month last time I got it. My friend got his, after about 8 MONTHS.

Basically, it's up the your local Chief. If he or she files it right away, it should be within 4-6 weeks. Many of them will let them pile up for a while.

Ain't this a great state? :banghead:

I would give them 2 more weeks, then go in person to talk to the chief. Be friendly and professional. If you make them mad, they can just say NO.

Chipperman, 8 Months? He must have just given up by that time. So much for the 90 day period for appealing it. Did you both get your Class A lisence?

Well, I hope I didn't make them mad. :uhoh: I called up at the 5 week mark and the 7 week mark. I was friendly both times.
