Got a question for a buddy at work.
He has just bought a Remington 700 XCR Compact Tactical in .308 and he has asked me to find out what "match ammo" would be the best.

He is planning on shooting anywhere from 100 to 1,000 yards. I have told him that reloading would be his best bet, but at this point he is just wanting factory ammo but he is open to reloading in the future.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions as this is not my area of expertises.

Whichever load his gun likes. It is always an experiment. Go buy a box of good ammo. Record the lot # in your log and start shooting. A good start would be Federal's Gold medal match. Or you could start off with Black Hills or Hornady. See what it shoots best.

You gave him good advice about reloading, but if he must use factory match ammo and shoot out to 1,000 yards, make sure he uses the 175gr load of either Fed GMM or Black Hills. I sighted for a guy shooting 168SMK's at 1k, and it was an ugly thing watching his bullets go transonic at that distance.
