Mauser .22 Help (Not 98 trainer)

-D.R.P.D.R.G.M.
-There are various letters all with crown looking markings above them: "B" "U" "G"
-numbers 459
-a scope rail built into the receiver not added on
-serial number 171,xxx
Barrel: -26 inches long and it is pretty heavy and thick
-CN51 on the barrel with what looks to be a "W" with an "R" placed on top of it in the grooves of the "W"

It has a rear adjustable military looking 200 yard sight, front sight is a sharp point.

Nice looking pre war .22! Looks like a 350.

You forgot to mention what you needed help with though.

If it is ammo selection, a buddy of mine with several 340s and a 350 has always had best accuracy with std. velocity over any high speed (go figure). The rifle can handle the latter though.

Oh yeah basically I wanted to know if it is stock and not sporterized or changed at all and if its a valuable firearm?

Since you don't picture the whole gun, it is hard to tell if it is a sporter or a cut down trainer.

**May have been meant for a peep sight, scopes were not common in those days.

**I don't know. There are a lot of markings applied to guns by employees long dead for records long lost.

I think it was originally built as a sporter. The ramp front sight and the hard rubber buttplate are not trainer parts and are hard to change out in the usual sporterizing job.

It is a Mauser .22 sporter. They made several models, and with various options it is hard to tell one from another, especially in that kind of photo. It looks like either a 420 or a 350, but they were very similar. Is the rifle single shot or a repeater? Value can run (depending on condition and model) anywhere from $100 or so up to well over a thousand.

As to markings:

Crown/B = Proved in finished condtion
Crown/U = Definitive proof
Crown/B = Proof for rifled barrels

Collectors refer to the combination as the "bug" proof.

DRP means Desutsches Reich Patent; DRGM means Deutsches Reich Gebrauchmuster, or registered design.

It is a single shot! It also has three pearl inlays on the left side of the hand grip.

Your Mauser

The attached picture might help ID your Mauser. The 350 is mag. fed.
I have an Es 340 B without the fore end finger groves.
It is very accurate with Wolf target. Almost as accurate my Mod. 52 Winchester.

I doubt the pearl inlays are factory; if they are not, they reduce the value of the rifle.

I have a Mauser es350b.serial number 163848.22.It's been altered somewhat and is therefore not a collector but I want to shoot it.The front sight is a lyman 17a,the original sliding sight is missing as is the peep that was probably used years ago.The stock on the right side has been cut out for the peep and the bolt has been changed.Would love to have the sliding sight but if that's not around,what peep would fit?Need help to post pictures.Looking for whatever info is out there.Thanks Bill [email protected]
