I have a Mauser 98 in great condition, that appears to be a 98kar, but it is not marked as such.
It is marked under the serial number with a C

This was made by Mauser (byf) in 1943 (this is marked in the receiver) Is the regular 43 1/2 inches long, the stock is the original and is laminated.
The marking in the receiver is Mod.98 as you can see in the picture.
It uses the 8mm Mauser cartridge and all the parts are marked with the serial number, I don't think that has ever been fired, and the barrel is pristine.

I have hear about a model a and a model b but never about the model c.
What it this? and why it is not marked Mod. 98 kar ??

I will appreciate any information you guys can give me.
Thank you

German serial numbers often included a suffix letter. The normal progression went from 1-9999, then 1a to 9999a, 1b to 9999b, etc. When Mauser/Oberndorf (byf) went to a 5 digit number (the only maker to do so), they still kept the suffix letter, but changing at 99999 instead of 9999. In short, the "C" is just part of the serial number.

The rifle is a standard K.98k; in spite of the official nomenclature of "Karabiner", all rifles manufactured as K.98k's were actually marked "Mod. 98" on the receiver. The terms "a" and "b" types applied to the older carbines. Some of the newer ones were updated to K.98k configuration in the late 1930's, but kept their original receiver markings.
