Does anyone have any experience with the Mauser 96 striaght pull bolt action rifle? I was it at a local gun shop, and they were asking $350. I wasn't able to try out the trigger, but loved how smooth and quick the action was. it's in 30-06, which is exactly the cartridge I'm looking for for hunting. how do they hold up, and how difficult is it to remove the bolt for cleaning? How's the trigger and accuracy?

Before six million High Roaders jump in to say that there ain't no such thing or that you must be mistaken; Mauser did make a commercial straight pull rifle named the M 96 not to be confused with the Swedish Mausers and such.

With that said, I really don't know much else about them. For $350, I'd probably jump on it. Commercial Mauser products have a pretty good reputation as far as I know, and that just looks too neat.

I would have to buy it. Where else are you going to find a good '06 for that price.

I had one in the past, very good rifles. Relatively lightweight, good accuracy, trigger was good IIRC. It was a 30-06 also. $350 is a more than fair price, only concern is about spare parts, just look at the bolt and see how many parts it has. You will get even faster with the action after you get used to it. Should last reasonably well.

When those were double, or triple the price, I did not buy one. Looks funny and all that. But at $350.00.

Run down there and get the thing.
