Anyone ever use one of these? I picked one up on a whim for my hunting rifle. Seems well enough made. Has anyone noticed any degredation in accuracy? It seems fairly rugged, but I'm sure it's not nearly as stiff as the tight-fitting floorplate that was in there. Mine has milled bottom metal rather than stamped. I saw this while ordering an extended floorplate release and new follower without the bolt hold-open. I ordered it on a whim. I can use both the extended release and the detachable magazine at the same time. I plan on shooting it both ways, but I was hoping to get someone's experience.

Which one is it?

Gun Parts Corp. has 20rnders for sale. I was thinking about picking one up, but a lot of people on the K98 Forum say they aren't reliable.

However, most of the magazines they refer to are the 10rnd G43 mags, not the 20rnd mags created just for the K98.

Let me know how this one works out, because I see nothing wrong with being able to carry 4x the ammo I carry now :D

Replacing the magazine should have no affect on accuracy. I don't know how reliable they are but I haven't heard of anyone having problems with them. FWIW,I always remove the bolt hold open feature from the follower myself,it is very easy to do. I am assuming bought the 3-5 round commercial magazine.

Jimmy-
You are correct. It's a 3 round commercial. I've run about 50 snap caps through it with no problems yet, so I'll give it a go. My concern was that the magazine might allow more stock flex than the blind floorplate would. I need to bed the action on this stock still. Good to know that it shouldn't change accuracy.

As far as stiffness of the action goes, the original floorplate fits pretty loosely in the trigger guard and doesn't add anything to stiffen the action. Let me know how it functions with live rounds. I have been looking at these for some time myself(although I prefer the clean look of the floor plate). Good luck. Jimmy

Will do. I think when the gunsmith refinished mine he must have gotten some additional finish somewhere. It is TIGHT. Requires significant effort to remove or replace and no wobble while installed. My old 03 was much looser than this.
I will definitely let you know how it works out. I agree that it is ugly looking, but I like the idea of not running rounds through the action to get them out.
