i picked one up at a gun show last year for 179 dollars. From what I hear now theyre over 200. grab one before the price gets even higher. Check the bore with a bore light, alot of the russian captures are in good shape. A blast to shoot and ammo is really cheap.

Are you looking for a German k98?

Or are you looking for something like a Yugo 24/47 or M48 or maybe a Czech VZ24?

Its a pretty open ended question youre bound to get a wide range of prices and places to buy tossed at you.

In any case you want to check the bore and make sure its still got some shine to it and rifling left. Matching parts are always a plus! I've bought dozens and of surplus rifles over the years and I always like to look uder the wood before I buy, just to check the state of the pitting. I don't like buying ones that have been sporterized, I look for ones that haven't been messed around with. Obviously you want to check the stock to make sure its not cracked anywhere.

As for your price question, again it depends on what type of Mauser you buy. The German K98's are going to tend to be more, whereas the Yugo's, like M48's and 24/47's are going to be in the $110-$180 range, same with the Czech VZ24's. There are a lot of good ones still out there and finding one that you can shoot and have fun with isn't too hard, so be
picky!

I paid $270 for mine a couple months ago. It was a little more then I wanted to but I got the chance to look it over real good before I bought it and thats worth money in itself. I imagine if you shop around you can get a nice one in the $250 range or even less if you get a good deal.
