Has anyone bought one of the 24/47 barreled actions from Samco? I'm wondering what kind of shape the bore is in. My guess is these were the ones that had really bad stocks so they threw the wood out. I wonder about the metal though.

Also, when they say "barreled action" does that include everything, like trigger, magazine, bolt, etc, or is is just the barrel and receiver?

It would be kinda fun to buy one and stick it in a Richards Microfit stock. I know it would be cheaper to just go buy a Savage, but I already have one of those. :)

Barreled action usually just means barrel and action, but it's usually hard to tell- sometimes it just means "rifle less stock". Like you guessed, usually these are sold bare because the wood was broken or cracked.

Hmm...if it was just barrel and receiver, what all would be required to get it going besides stock? I'm not real familiar with Mausers, but I'd assume bolt, trigger, and magazine.

Buy a complete rifle.

Projects suck and you almost always wind up spending more money than if had simply purchased what you wanted in the first place.

Voice of experience, here.

If they do not come with bolts, you're screwed because bolts for the medium actions are scarce. Much cheaper in the long run to buy a complete rifle, as SaxonPig eluded too.

Considering a complete rifle is only 20 bucks more, that makes sense. Heck, you could probably sell the stock if you don't want it and come out even.

If samco still sells the persian mausers without a stock, buy one of those instead- one of those will be far better than anything yugoslavian.

Well, so much for the Mauser. I was at the local gun shop yesterday and he had a Lee-Enfield just in on consignment. After some serious negotiations (with the wife, not with the gun shop :) ) it went home with me.

I'm not going to sporterize it though, maybe just add a no-gunsmith scope mount.
