I saw a Hi-Power today, a worn blued pistol marked Mauser and GmbH, but it was different than a normal Hi-Power in that the safety was mounted on the slide, and putting it on safety (down) also dropped the hammer. The hammer itself was a normal BHP spur hammer, but had a hole through it sideways similar to a commander style hammer. The gun came with a parkerized magazine and had no magazine disconnect (and no disconnect marks on the front of the magazine either).

The locking lugs on the barrel were quite rounded, as were the lugs in the slide. The pistol was marked $339 and I wasn't really close to buying it at all. Just thought it was interesting. Any history or comments on this pistol, I couldn't find anything in a search.

Back in the 1980's Mauser imported several Mauser-marked pistols.
One was a close copy of the Browning Hi-Power, and the other was a "sort of" Browning Hi-Power double action design.

Both guns were actually manufactured by FEG of Hungary for Mauser.
The Mauser marked guns had a higher grade blued finish.

FEG also imported FEG-marked guns into the US and they are rather common.

I believe you saw the Mauser Model 90DA, which as dfariswheel pointed out, was essentially a Hungarian FEG P9R, but without the ventilated rib or the alloy frame. It was built in Hungary, then finished at the Mauser factory in Germany. I don't know of any production numbers, but it was originally released in 1991. The other Mauser Hi-Power, the Model 80SAV, was again a refinished Hungarian pistol, this time based on the FEG FP9. This model is, practically speaking, a near perfect clone of the Browning Hi-Power.

I should have mentioned that it was single action only with a decocker, the trigger would not cock the hammer.

Interesting stuff. I doubt it was worth $340 they were asking, especially with as little finish as it had.
