I have a WWII German Mauser (8mm) K98. I took it to the range last weekend, I went to clean it today(just shot a box of my reloads). I have a 8mm bronze bore brush(either and outer's or hoppe's from the local wal-mart). The brush seems way to loose in the bore. I was wondering what some of my fellow k98 shooters use for a brush that seems to be tight in the barrel?

My ammo question: I found an add from a local gun shop that 8mm ammo onsale. WWII German 8mm 200rnds for $60. I am assuming it is corrosive? It came in an ammo can on a belt(to be feed into machine gun). How do I remove to ammo from the belt? Some of the rounds on the belt appear to be copper jacketed and some have a bright silver color to them, are the silver ones steel?

Yes it is corrosive.

Once you start cleaning the bore you will realise that most of WWII is still in the bore...

No idea about the silver bullets...

Please post pics... :D

I've got a "loose" spot right under the front sight base but otherwise an 8mm brush seems to fit about normal. (FWIW) Luckily this loose spot doesn't seem to impact the accuracy of the thing.

Have a good one,
Dave

PS - forgot to add. All of my brushes are tipton's.

Can you read a date on the rim base or any info at all? You should be able to twist and pull the ammo out of the belt unless it's corroded together. Shouldn't be that hard to do. Can you insert the bullet tip into the muzzle's bore for fit? It shouldn't go up the brass neck. Some muzzle bores just got worn from excessive cleaning with the steel cleaning rod. Not a big deal if it still shoots fairly good.
