I have some S&B 8mm Mauser ammo, box shows 8x57 JS and below that it says only for barrels with S - caliber bore 7,89mm, groove 8,20mm.

So does anyone know if this stuff is okay to shoot in a K98 Mauser? Or is all the writing on the box just marketing. Thanks for any help.

What you have is what you want for a K98 Mauser.

The Karabiner 98 Kurz (often abbreviated Kar98k, K98, or K98k) was a bolt action rifle chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted as the standard service rifle in 1935 by the German Wehrmacht.

The 8mm Mauser cartridge came about around 1888 as 7.92mm X 57mm. Originally it was a .318" diameter bullet. In 1905 the same cartridge (7.92mm X 57mm) was changed to a .323" diameter bullet. The .323 diameter replaced a round nose bullet and the S denotes "spitzer". The K98 Mausers were designed for the S bullets having the .323 diameter. That is why you are seeing:

only for barrels with S - caliber bore 7,89mm, groove 8,20mm

on the box.
