Decided to do a retouch rather than a full restore on the stock. So just degreased and cleaned before reapplying BLO. Will follow with a paste wax (aka black powder lube) to cover after it cures.

I did a chamber and bore cast today and it looks like it is in fact 8x57JS (.323) rather than 7.92x57I (the .318 cartridge). Grooves are .3235" lands are .314". Chamber is tight - wont's close on my neck-sized only reloads but will on an S&B 196 SPCE. Short, narrow leade at .3265". So, should be a shooter. But will have to get a FL sizing die. The S&B ammo is CIP loaded (MAP of 56kpsi), so will use a more mild approach.
De nada on the kickoff piece. I've read many times former owners of 2 trigger set trigger rifles remove the kickoff piece from ignorance and / or frustration trying to adjust or just discomfort with having a set trigger I suppose. Fortunately the few such rifles I've purchased still had all their gutworks.

Factory ammo has its uses. At least you have a go-by for workable OAL. Is there any US SAAMI spec ammo mild enough for your 40K psi limit? Or (understandably) not interested in factory fodder in general?

SAAMI Spec for 8x57 is 35,000 psi because they are worried about .323 bullets being pushed down a .318 barrel. Other than for a hog hunt in TX a few years ago, I cant remember the last time I bought rifle ammunition...I ordered a FLS die, so should be fine with hand loads. I suppose the neck sizing only die is just a little too loose.

Me gusta hog hunts in Texas, no season 24/7/365 legal with landowner permission and basic Texas hunting license (no tags) on naturalized feral hogs, Axis deer, and blackbuck antelope. I'm biased due to travel distance required plus cost of resident hunting licenses. But I digress . . .
