Among Mauser variants = specifically the Turkish Model 1938 and the Czech 98/22, which is more desirable/collectible? Was showing a friend a few of my Mausers, and we started debating this... assuming similar condition (VG+/Excel), which is more valuable, collectible, desirable...

Any thoughts out there?

Are we talking about a Persian contract 98/22, or just a Czech 98/22?

In either case, I'd say the 98/22 is the more valuable of the two. The Persian contract rifles in particular seem to be very esteemed amongst the multitudes of Mauser variants. T38's are decent rifles, but they tend to be very loose and very worn. Most of them were shot a lot and dragged through the sands and it shows. A lot of the T38 rifles are just Turkish re-arsenals of donated or contract German Mauser 98's and 93's, with original serials ground off and new barrels when necessary.

It's pretty hard these days to find a nice Gewehr 98 type long-rifle just as it came out of the factory for cheap, and comparing one of those to a similar quality T38 (matching numbers, good metal finish, good wood), I think the 98/22 would beat it handily in terms of value.

The 92/22 is a Persian, though the only markings indicating that are the Farsi numbers on the rear sight. All other markings are Czech (Brno) arsenal. 95% blue.

The Turk 38 is either rearsenaled or a rack queen. 100% blue, new (replacement) stock from arsenal. And this one is very tight.

I have had 4 M98/22's and all were very accurate (around 1 MOA). My single M38 Turk is a 3-4 MOA rifle.

I had a Czech 98 22 that i sold six years ago. It was mismatch but it was very accurate, 1 moa at 100 yds using Turk surplus. I got it from SOG in 2003 for $ 90 . Anyways since it was somewhat heavy and i have a K 98 i decided to just sell it off. Looking back i should have kept it.
