Report from the candy store :D:D:D:D

I need advice about two potential purchases.

The first is about trading my Remington 740 in 30-06 with a newer Remington 7400 in 30-06.
My 740 is a good shooter, I do not use it often, very good mechanical conditions, some bluing gone though, especially towards the muzzle.
I have the original wood checkered stock in good shape, only few scratches and scuffs and I put a Ram-Line synthetic stock on it
The 740 was produced between 1955 and 1960..I heard that with the use, at some point, they wear out the bolt rails, making the gun jamming frequently..at that point you have to throw away the gun.
The 7400 is a revised version of the 740 and was introduced in the 80's after the 742 (which, in turn, was an evolution of the 740 made from 1960 to 1981)
My understanding is that they improved a lot of aspects (big stronger locking lugs instead of 9 tiny ones, shallower feeding angle from the magazine, improved gas system, etc..)
This 7400 has a factory synthetic stock with cheeckrest and has a nice sort of parkerized (Remington parkerized) finishing..seems is very good shape, better aestetic conditions than my 740 for sure..the 2 guns are estremely similar, but the 7400 looks a bit more "modern"...thicker barrel than the 740.
What do you think?? Should I trade my 740?? The asking price is $345 and it has a scope....I can opt for leaving the scope and use mine (which is WAY better) which would save some money and probably I can get a further discount..what would be a fair difference to pay trading in my 740??? I would give them the extra stock set and the scope mount, Weaver style.
I heard that at some point Remington run into quality issues..in what period?? could be this 7400 be affected??

Second: A sporterized Mauser 98 in 30-06
The gun is in excellent conditions even aestetically, work done very well, very few little marks and scratches, excellent bluing... it has Weaver style scope mounts.
The receiver is Czech built.
Hooded front sight, collapsable screw adjustable rear sight on the barrel.
Very basic stock, no checkering, just plain wood in great shape.
Improved bolt handle and customized safety.
Asking price $165 but I'm sure I could get it for 150 or less.

What do you think??

Thanks!!!

Not much wrong with a good M98 if the headspace checks out ok. The action alone is worth the price.

Built up a an '06 for my son some years ago on an Argentine Mauser action. I have a lot of respect for that old classic.

i was gonna say, a czech made mauser... if you don't like the caliber, put another one on, that is one of the best actions you can ever work with.
I kinda like your old remmy, it would take a lot of shots to wear it out, just keep it lubed grease on the rails. Preferably white lithium.

The choice is not or the Remington or the Mauser...i would get both at they are a good deal..that's why I ask your opinion on this :D:D

Is $150 a good price?? A steal or just fair???

Thanks!!!

I woul get both also. The Mauser for $165 is a pretty fair deal. Getting it for about 10% less than that is even better. It is rare that 30-06 barrels are shot out.
