I’m not going to jump into the caliber wars except to say that I own a version of the gun(s) I carry in both 9mm and 40. One of the main reasons I haven’t picked up a P365xl is because they don’t offer it in 40. I like having purchase options for factory defensive ammo in lean times.

Amen to this. Options are good. Caliber consolidation is for the birds.

I don't own a 40 myself, dont see a reason at present. If ammo was back and I could get a police trade in glock for 250 like the good ol days ( a handful of years ago), sure.

If I was carrying for animal defense I'd rather the 40 Vs the 9mm. Give me some 180 gr hardcast, 15 on tap. Pretty impressive.

My 40 can experience consists of a browning HP in 40 and a glock 22. Both were "snappier" than 45 or 9mm but did not seem all that dissimilar to a 380 blow back (which really isn't bad).

Recoil is subjective.

OP, why not just buy the M&P ?

I like the M&P guns so much better than the Glocks.
