At first glance I thought this was any 12 gauge pump. Looked like an 870 to me. On closer inspection it turned out to be more than it appeared. It is made by the Mayfield Arms Co out of Meade KS. It shows to be chambered in .760 Mayfield, and to make it fun the model is "Big Medicine". I haven't been able to find one single thing on google about the manufacturer or caliber. Is it simply a 12 gauge slug gun? Other than the SN the only other markings I have found are pictured.

Ha, I found exactly nothing. Got any ammo for that thing?

I did learn that there's a pawn shop with an FFL in Wichita KS called "A Loan at Last"

This might be a Mayfield "personalized" gun rather than a Mayfield manufactured gun. The .760 for the chambering would be between a 12ga (.729) and a 10ga(.770) and could have actually been the results of a poor measurement of the bore to add to the personalization effort. This is all conjecture...I really have no idea about this gun. JMO

I assume it isn't rifled? .760 is technically somewhere between a 10 ga. and a 12 ga. shotgun cylinder bore. Actually that's about a 10 ga. bore with a light modified (0.015") choke.

I'd guess a 10 ga. shell would chamber.

The stampings sure don't inspire much confidence that this is an actual unique firearm built by some commercial firm. Looks more like someone was playing around customizing their pump shotgun.

Probably someone named "Mayfield."

I always wondered why the big British Nitro Express cartridges could not be adapted to a pump action shotgun by simply adding a barrel chambered for it and pinning it to the receiver for accuracy. A .577 Nitro express is about as big as a 20GA shotgun shell. A .600NE is about the size of a 16 GA. These big rounds operate at relitivly low pressure and the 870 3 1/2" Magnum action should be able to handle the stress of recoil.

I do not have any ammo that I know for sure goes with the gun. It does happen to have a rifled barrel. I feel pretty confident it isn't something I want to shoot. I had planned on selling it, but finding out what it was first seemed relatively important
