For the folks at MBC or others who have loaded them, I've read the suggestions on Missouri Bullet Company, and I want to buy a few thousand to try them in my Model 14.

My question is, I load and like hollow-base wadcutters (HBWC), specifically, the classic load of the wadcutter with 2.6~2.8 grains of Bullseye. The Model 14 has seemed to do well with bullets sized to .356. I noticed that MBC doesn't sell a HBWC, and that the DEWCs are sized .357 or .358.

What suggestions do you have on a load to replicate the HBWC load? Same charge and still seat the bullet flush with the case mouth? Which bullet do you recommend with a Smith Model 14 (I also shoot them in my other Smiths, but the accuracy isn't as critical)?

Thanks for the comments.

I actually just got done loading 50 of the DEWC, the PPC bullet in 10bhn sized to .358". I load them a few different ways. If loaded into 38 special cases I load them with 2.8gr of AA#2. Those are loaded to just a little bit of lead showing above the case mouth, but the crimp groove in the case. Then I apply a taper crimp to take the bell off the case mouth, no more. These are very accurate in my wifes 686, my uncles M15 and my friends M10.

I also load the same bullet in 357 cases. In that instance I load them over 3.1 to 3.2gr of AA#2, either will work, whichever I hit first is good for me. I usually load them to the crimp groove and put just the slightest roll into the crimp groove. I found that gave me the best accuracy in the 357.

If your gun shoots a .356HBWC well, I would think you would be fine with the 357 diameter from MBC, however, IMO you would be just as well off with the 358. IME the 356HBWC skirt expands more than the base of the bullet on a DEWC will, so you can use the smaller bullet easier. In the DEWC you may need the 358 diameter. I will wait for someone else to chime in with thier views, because I couldnt give you a difinitive answer on that one.

You are correct Blarby, I should have mentioned that. Brad is very accomodating to customers, no doubt about that. I still think that he will want a slightly larger diameter bullet with the DEWC than he did with the HBWC.

I think if it were me, I would maybe consider buying one of each. I like to tinker though, and can never have to many bullets. If they arent the perfect one, they will work, just not optimally. Still make OK plinking ammo, just not live up to what we expect with Missouri Bullets.

That's actually a big part of the question I had was what peoples' experiences have been with the DEWCs. What I really care about is getting a good bullet at a good price, and I've read a lot of positive things about the MBCs on here. I was wondering about the fact that the DEWCs won't obturate, but by that standard .357s should shoot just fine too as the skirt just wouldn't expand as much.

As for the charge weights, has anybody shot these bullets with Bullseye? What charge weights have people been using? Thanks for the comments gentlemen!

I have not been able to get a cast DEWC to shoot as accurately as swaged WCs
As for sizing I would check the cylinder throat diameter of your mod.-14. It would be best to slug the chamber throats.
If a .357" diameter bullet will pass through the throats I would get the .358" bullet,
if the throat diameters are .357" a .357" diameter bullet will not pass though with out some persuasion and a .357" cast bullet may work.
