I'm the new proud owner of an AR-15 and obviously live in Maryland. It's been quite a task to obtain a few magazines for my rifle due to regulations restraining me from purchasing them.

From what i can tell is that the regulation prevents businesses from selling "OVER" 20 round magazines to/in the state of Maryland.

Oddly enough though I cant find a website/gunshop that will ship anything but a 10 round magazine. Am I in error reading the regulations, or are they just being cautious/uninformed because of the state regs?

Thanks in advance guys! They definatly don't make it easy on us here in Maryland. I might just suck it up and drive to VA, or PA and pick up a couple 30 rounds just because they are still legal to own in MD and save myself some anguish.

No, you're right. Hit any of the major gun shows and you should be able to pick up some 20-round magazines. The smart thing is to go out-of-state and buy some 30-round mags.

You can't buy or sell any mags with a capacity over 20 rounds here in MD. You can, however, drive out of state and buy as many as you can cart back with you - provided that once they're in-state, they remain part of your property. If you want to sell, trade, or give away any of those mags, you MUST do it out of state for it to be legal.

This includes internet sales. If you order them online, and manage to have them shipped to you, you better not let anyone find out since that violates the law.

Congrats on the new AR, btw. I'm such a crappy shot with a rifle, but I want an AR pretty bad. Where do you shoot, if you don't mind me asking?

That is correct you can buy 21+ out of state and take them home. There are a couple mail order compainies that believe it is 20rnd and higher mags and will not ship 20 rnd mags. I think Midway is one of the companies.

Yeah I would be perfectly happy with a couple of 20 rounds mags right now, but can't find a website offering to ship them to MD. Amazing at how out of touch 90% of online gun shops are in regards to state laws. But i swore they are legal not being "above 20 rounds".

I shoot at MDSAR, Maryland Small Arms Range, but am now on the hunt for decent outdoor range to go to, or even private property considering how much land we have here. Problem is my location. Southern Maryland takes an hour just to get anywhere important so I'm still looking for that perfect spot. I always tell the wife, I'm all alone out here!! When it comes to my "hobbies".

Thanks for the input guys.

Regrettably, "high capacity" magazines are typically, if erroneously, defined as >10 and there are states prohibiting "high capacity" magazines. I'd suspect many places won't ship 20's to MD even though legal.

If you haven't tried already, you might check Brownell's - they seem to keep track of what's OK by state.

Brownells is where I buy all of my 20rd mags, or 30rd mag components.
Try Myrtle Grove Wildlife Management Area, their range was pretty decent for the cost when I lived in Southern MD.
