Oh man this is gonna get ugly. I really hate the federal govt. meddling in the affairs of states' rights. If I am legally allowed to possess marijuana per my state issued card (which I am), I should be allowed to own guns. Looks like I'll be handing over my card and have to acquire marijuana by some other means. This is a huge deal here in Denver.

Excerpt:

DENVER — You can have your gun, or you can have your medical marijuana. But the Obama administration now says you can’t have both.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is in the crosshairs for a recent memo prohibiting gun merchants from selling firearms to anyone who uses marijuana, including those with state-issued medical-marijuana cards.

This is such a joke. People who take oxycontin (which is in many cases as bad as heroin if abused) can still legally own guns but those who smoke herb cannot? Sounds like some prescription drug manufacturers are fed up with all the money they are losing and have decided to grease some palms across DC to get things moving. Same as it ever was...

Just because the state says it's OK doesn't mean it's not a crime. At the federal level, it's still an illegal substance. A state can't pass a law saying that murder is OK, can it?

Personally, I don't see the reason for marijuana being illegal, but it is still the law.

So many thoughts on this one. It hasn't come up here yet (that I know of)
But I can't wait to see how this plays out in AZ.

It doesn't have to be so black and white though. Clearly nobody thinks it's ok for states to legalize murder, but in the case of MMJ, the Feds need to just lay off and use their resources for more important matters. Seems like they are just looking for an easy way to take guns away from a lot of people. Problem is, these aren't the people they should be worried about. How bout a program aimed at staking away guns from people who are prescribed meds for schizophrenia or dementia?

This coming from a Govt. that gave guns to Mexican cartels. :banghead:

I can't abide that at all. Saying that they should just ignore the law sets a very, very dangerous precident. All of the sudden the law is only what law enforcement believes it to be at the time.

Um, we do. If you've ever been committed or adjucated as a mental defective, you are a prohibited person. Same as being an illegal user of a controlled substance.

You know, openly planning on commiting a felony on a public board probably isn't the smartest move. If you use marijuana, you a prohibited person, period. It doesn't matter where you get it.
