Wow.....what a great forum with a ton of info....going thru all of it is tough though.....

I have a box of Meister Caliber 240 grain SWC.....looking for some load data for Unique powder....from my research this is what I have found....look good? or are there some other suggestions.....thanks!

44 Special: 6.5 g Unique 800 fps
7.5 g Unique 950 fps

8.0 g HS6 917 fps

44 Mag: 10 g Unique 1100 fps
9 g Unique

What gun? I have loaded Unique as low as 6.4 grains, 6.9 is a good standard load .44 Special Load and is the accuracy load in the Lyman manual. The 7.5 grain loading is the old Skeeter Skelton load. That is what I load with Lyman 429421. I do shoot them out of a Ruger SBH and IMHO it is the cats ass as far as .44 Special loads. Generally, load data is a little conservative for the .44 Special due the amount of old revolvers out there (and the Charter Arms Bulldog). Any loads that I have tried under the 6.9 grain loading has been sooty even with firm crimps. Not enough pressure to appreciate the Unique powder is my take. Good Luck! Bill

S & W 686 SSR with a perf center trigger and hammer upgrade....

Should I go with 6.9 for now with the Speciall loads?....How about Magnum loads?

Thanks for the replies!

As already mentioned, the old Skeeter Skelton load of 7.5 Unique/240 Keith SWC is what I use in my S&W 1950 Target.

Great accuracy, and plenty of power without being unpleasant to shoot!

It is perfectly safe in any modern Colt SAA or S&W .44 Special.

It is over SAAMI spec, but the .44 Spl is held to really low pressure by SAAMI due to those 100 year old guns chambered for it.

For the magnum that 10 grains of Unique is also a classic great shooting load. Mild for .44 Magnum but still plenty of power to do anything you may need it to do. Accurate to boot. Bill

The Skeeter load is a great general purpose load, as is the 10.0gr Unique .44Mag load. They are what I use most in my .44's.

That 10 gr Unique 44mag has been my almost only load for lead bullets in my SBH. Killed a deer with it & that load some years back - about 30 yds, and he dropped like a sack of flour. I also load 7.5 gr Unique under the 240 lead in 44spl cases in my SBH just because I have a bunch of brass: I loaded some of the slightly stiffer (6 gr) 44spl Unique loads for my wife's 44spl (Rossi 720) and when she finally got around to shooting it she promptly sold it. Got her a M10 and now she is a danger to herself & others...
