I'd like to start using Meister Bullets in my loads for .45ACP. I've been using Sierra 8815 (230gr FMJ.) The primary reason for using Meister is economic. I can get a box of 500 for between $22 and $26 (depending upon the type) locally at Gander Mountain. This is alot cheaper than the Sierra's which are around $13-$15 for 100 locally.

I'm thinking of using the MB-45-230 and\or the MB-45-200SWC.

Is there anything special I need to do to load lead? Lube, etc.?

Also, any problems feeding SWC bullets in a Kimber Custom II?

Thanks,

Abe

I shoot lead SWCs in my Kimber all the time. I bought a couple boxes of Meister .38 caliber SWCs to use in light .357 magnum rounds, but switched back to Speer 148-grain HBWCs for the sake of accuracy.

Thanks Standing Wolf. Do you give up that much accuracy by shooting straight lead?

I've read of lubing lead bullets. Does that only apply to those that one would hand cast?

Thanks,

Abe

Lubing commercial cast bullets isn't necessary. Once in a while they'll miss one, or the lube will come out, but its not usually a problem.

As for accuracy with cast bullets, I usually shoot cast in all my guns. Autos and revolvers alike.

Accuracy will vary with the bullet dia, lead alloy, type of lube (some companys will lube the bullets you order with lube of your choice) you use. And of course all the other variables.

In my opinion, loaded propery, you loose nothing using all cast bullets.

Most modern autos are throated for SWC's. My last 1911 was a Springfield 1911 Mil Spec. It would function and chamber any bullet shape as long as the round would function in the magazine.
Older autos, especially mil surp will probably need throated for use with anything other than ball ammo. A simple job.

Nope. I use lead bullets in light target loads, which I'm more accurate with than full house factory loads. I haven't completely refined my .45 A.C.P. load, but it's coming along slowly and surely.

Years ago, lots of model 1911s wouldn't accept lead SWCs, but that seems to have become a thing of the unmourned past.

I use both 230 and 200 gr Meistner bullets in my Springfields. Both are accurate but I needed to find the right powder for them. I have found that Blue dot works well for me with the 230 gr. loads, (red dot is good as well but BD is better)and Unique with the 200 gr loads. These are the best with my gu, yours might be different.
