Memorable Excuses for Selling a Gun?

My last swap would be the most memorable.

His listing more or less said "I bought a para gi expert and shot it a little bit and I don't like it. I'd like a sig p220.

My reply "I bought a sig p220 used and shot a mag through it and hate it. It's been on top kitchen cabinet for 3 years.

I think we are both happy now:)

Saw one on Armslist a month or so ago. Guy claimed he was hammered drunk and went on an auction site (believe Gunbroker but can't swear to it) and went on a shopping spree. He had a couple grand worth of guns and accessories that he bought and was needing to sell them because he put every one of them on his/wife's credit card and his wife was furious.

Some that I've given:
- "I don't like the [caliber] anymore." [Caliber] = 5.45x39(1), 7.62x25(1), .38Spcl (1), .410 & .45LC(2); Sold the ammo along the firearms.
- "I don't shoot it enough."

/QUOTE]That's gold man.
I have bought one or two after a glass or two. Nothing terrible but went in too fast for sure.

For myself, I'd have to be honest, but that would probably simply mean I'd give as the reason, "Fine weapon, I just never shoot it." That's true for a lot of my stuff.

But I might just go with what a homeless guy I used to see down in DC put on his sign: "Ninjas killed my family. I need money for Kung Fu lessons!"

Cannot be Gunbroker cause you would be sober by the time the auction actually ended.. hours after the scheduled end time.!!!!

No excuses.. I buy them, if I dont like them they are gone. Dont know how people hold onto them "just because".

I've sold guns I just wasn't using.

I sold one gun, an original Trapdoor rifle that had been cut to carbine length, because it wasn't fun to shoot. I didn't reload for it, and it pounded me to the point where I couldn't shoot a full box at the range.

I don't think any reason is necessary to dispose of a gun. I find the attitude "I never sell a gun" to be a little silly. You don't really want it, you don't use it, but for some weird reason you won't sell it because "I never sell a gun". Good luck to you. I'd prefer to use the funds to buy something I actually want and will use.

Also, tastes change. I've later regretted selling a couple, but then I wouldn't have had some I really enjoyed more.

My wife and I had only been married three years and I was in a part time job at that time and she had a full time job. In that three year span she had managed to wreck her car twice. The second time I had to sell my Springfield GI 1911 to my Dad to pay her deductible. The next year I went full time and have been since with no issues. And my Dad won't turn the Springfield loose, he loves it.

"It was my ex-husband's, he sold the pre ban magazines because they were worth more than the gun, and I don't like guns. He left in the house safe, I got the house."

from a local sale ad. after meeting with the owner, it was a joke to get attention - and it certainly worked.

"Turned Vegetarian"
That's pretty funny.

Somewhat OT but I do remember selling my EDC to pay for a new EDC I wanted and met up with an older guy in a public place and he said, 'we gotta do this quick, my wife is in the store shopping thinking I'm in the bathroom.' :D

Saw a guy walking around a gun show with an FAL with this sign taped to it: "Must sell, girlfriend is pregnant, wife is pi$$ed".

Bought a US Army commemerative Auto-Ordinance 1911. The woman said it belonged to ex-husbands father. It was a retirement gift when he retired from the army as a major. His name and years of service are engraved in the right side of slide. Price was $450 which is low, asked why. Her reply, "I know this will really hurt ******(her ex)". I bought it only because if I didn't someone else sure would have.

I never understood the "thinning the herd" comment until I found myself wanting to do the same thing. Sometimes you find yourself with a gun that you rarely shoot, or is the last gun in a certain caliber/type of ammo... why not convert that into a different gun (or something else) that you need, or will use/enjoy?

+1

Sometimes when your collection or "arsenal" gets to a certain size, it is a good idea to downsize. this is a personal choice of course.

But when you have multiple firearms of the same type/caliber i.e. SKS, AK, AR, Glock, etc it doesn't hurt to sell one or two of them knowing you can easily buy another one down the road.

No, that is a real reason, and a sad one. Did someone here call it an excuse? I missed it. Who are you arguing with BSA?
