Memorial Weekend

This weekend is sacred remembrance to those who paid the ultimate price so we can enjoy the freedoms that befall us. I plan on attending the service at my local cemetery to honor the fallen. I especially swell with pride when I hear my father's name called out during roll call.

Prayers for that young boy and his family.
Amen.
I'm third generation Navy. I was in school with those kids, they lived down the block from me.
As I grew older, the children of those kid became those kids themselves.
Later, they would become my godchildren.
I didn't do anything special. beyond having lived to tell about it.

We happy few, we band of brothers...to be forever remember-ed, until the end of time.

In this instance, I believe George got it wrong

I think it’s a matter of perspective, I always look at a life well lived as something to be celebrated and not mourned. But I’m not going to tell someone not to mourn, that’s for themselves to decide. I look at it as what one decides to do with the loss of life.

But I think George’s words were a bit strong on “foolish and wrong” but that was George. I don’t think he meant any disrespect but wanted his men to be honored not mourned.

Definitely a controversial topic, but I agree we should thank God that such men existed and lived the lives the way they did.

I wish businesses didn’t try to profit form the sacrifice of those hero’s who gave everything.

When I was in the shower getting ready for work, I heard 2 car dealerships and a some other business talking about their Memorial Day sale. Basically it was “Thanks for all who served, now let’s talk about the deals we have for you this weekend”. It made me nauseous and ashamed. Then I heard a spot by Budweiser. Actually I just now found it on YouTube.

So there I am standing in my bathroom with a towel wrapped around me when this spot starts. And I figured it was some kind of promotion. Then they asked for a moment of silence. I stopped what I was doing and bowed my head. I thanked my God for the life I’ve been given as a result of those who fell, and asked him to comfort the families of those who have lost loved ones in defense of this country that their sacrifice would never be forgotten.

I still expected the spot to end with some kind of sale. And was so proud of them that it didn’t. They paid quite a lot of money for tv and radio time to run that and didn’t try to profit. My hat is off to them. Well done.
