I'm a sucker for gimmicks and threw in a couple boxes of this stuff in my last order from SOG. At $15/50, I didn't really want to buy much as I already have a decent supply of 9mm ball and usually reload for it.

However, I am curious about these rounds and really cannot find jack about it using various search engines. I'm most curious if it's a type of ball ammunition, frangible or some other design.

Here is the description that accompanies the photo on SOGs website

Product Description:
This ammo is a special, one time purchase from Germany. Manufactured by MEN, this 9mm +P high velocity ammo is 91 grain, completely lead free, boxer prime and 1,378 FPS velocity. This is some of the best 9mm manufactured! Extremely accurate, low deflection and high penetration, This ammo sells for $450 / 1000rds in Europe, SOG has it for only $300 per 1000rds!

If no one here knows, I'll post a quick review after I receive my 2 boxes as to what the heck it is.

Thanks in advance!

It is an all copper alloy round-nose bullet that has a large enclosed cavity that brings the bullet's weight down to 91 grains. According to the Schwartz bullet penetration model, at 1378 fps, it should penetrate to a depth of 22.9 inches.

Well, they did say it offers "high penetration". :D

481, thank you for that! I simply could not find that info.

I would gladly buy 1000 rounds if I had something to shoot it with.

Most Americans are big and fat so over-penetration should not be a problem. I think you're passing on very good product at very favorable price.

I bet with it being that light, it yaws and dumps energy and penetration capability inside on body cavity. Plus, we are fat people.

Well, there goes my informal testing....

A week after placing the order, I received an email that essentially all the ammo I purchased on line from them wasn't actually in stock when I palced the order and that now they are no longer accepting orders as they are out of stock on ALL their ammunition ( their words, not mine).

I should have purchased this ammo back when I bought my AR magazines and 5.56 ammunition a week before Sandy Hook.

481, thanks again for that info. Your Googlefoo is vastly superior to mine apparently. M

Sorry to hear that, I was looking forward to hearing your impression of it.

Nah, just vastly more bored than you are. :p

Ha! Now I know what this stuff is! Found a bunch of brass headstamped as above at the range, and almost mixed it in with the "good" stuff. This new stuff is berdan primed, so not reloadable at my house. Just posting so you are all aware.
