A suspected robber was fatally shot inside a Hazel Park home, early Friday morning. Police learned the victim and the shooter were acquaintances.

Around 1 a.m., the homeowner called police saying he’d shot an intruder. When investigators arrived they found 22-year-old Michael Wycoff dead upstairs.

The homeowner claimed his house had been ransacked and a window was broken, so he grabbed his gun and found Wycoff in an upstairs closet. Police said there was a confrontation and the homeowner fired.

According to authorities, the homeowner knew the Wycoff’s sister and all three were together at her home earlier in the evening.

Police are still investigating and the homeowner has not been arrested. Wycoff has a criminal history including home invasion.

HAZEL PARK - Police are investigating today's early morning shooting death on Granet Street.

A man who lives on the street at 12:58 a.m. called police and said he shot a man who broke into his home. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old man dead of multiple gunshot wounds. The homeowner was not arrested as investigators continue their probe, police said. No other details were released.

Interesting in that our "stand your groud/make my day law" is still in the legislature. Main opposition to the new law "it isn't needed". Sounds about like what I've been saying. :D

The homeowner was arrested? How can that be? We've all been assured numerous times that we WILL be arrested if we shoot somebody. Right? Multiple shots into an aquaintance no less.

Hard to argue with experts who aren't from here.
