Grand Prairie man killed by homeowner after apparent burglary

Legally right may not make it morally right, but that is going to depend on what shape my moral mind is in at the time.

As one self defense instructor taught me....Using lethal force against another over a material item is not morally sound, even though Texas law allows it. Then again, if that person is stealing your livelihood that you depend on to support and care for yourself and your family, then he isn't just stealing a material item, but your familial welfare.

Personally, I have a lot easier time of justifying something that is legally right for my morals than justifying what is morally right for the legal system.

The thing is, here in Texas, if you are going to do a crime at night, it is too bad if you are ignorant of what might happen to you!

As the mother of a 12 year old child pointed out to her child's killer, "Trespassing is not punishable by the death penalty." When shot, the child had done nothing more than break into a home with his buddies who were going through a gang initiation. They were unarmed. The man met the boys in the hall, feared for his life and the lives of his family, and killed a child of 12...who was committing a very adult crime with very adult circumstances and ramifications. The mother of the child could never understand how it was that an adult man could shoot her baby. That man could not understand why the intruder continued to advance on him after he ordered him out of the house.

Morals and laws, the two often are not clear cut.
