WASHINGTON (AFP) - US filmmaker Michael Moore (news), an outspoken opponent of US President George W. Bush (news - web sites), has declared his official support for Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark (news - web sites).

"He is clearly the absolute best hope we have of defeating George W. Bush," Moore said on his website in an article entitled "I'll Be Voting for Wesley Clark/Good-Bye Mr. Bush".

"That's right, a peacenik is voting for a general. What a country!" Moore quipped, insisting that Clark would put an end to the war in Iraq (news - web sites), protect the interests of minorities and the working class and ensure that the rich pay their fair share of taxes.

The remarks were also sent in an e-mail Wednesday to fans of the Oscar-winning director of "Bowling for Columbine".

Clark, one of eight Democrats vying for the party's nomination to run against Bush in the November 2 election, welcomed the endorsement, saying Moore was "an enormous talent and an inspirational figure for millions of Americans.

"I am delighted to have his support, and I am honored by the eloquence and passion of his endorsement letter," he said in a statement.

Moore, who also authored "Dude, Where's My Country?", a book that slams Bush and his fellow Republicans, wrote an open letter to Clark in mid-September, urging him to run for president.

Moore an "enormous talent?" If that's a reflection of Clark's tastes, he fails right there. Well, maybe one of those adjectives is accurate...

Wasn't planning to vote Dem this time around anyway, but that [ahem] "Endorsement" from 'Little Mikey Moore' tells me all I need to know about Wes.
