Moore now getting less

First, Michael Moore threw his creative weight and his celluloid into defeating President Bush's re-election. Then he made a big push for an Oscar nomination. He lost on both counts.

Why didn't the former golden boy of Hollywood who championed the anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-America movement with his dishonest propaganda piece "Fahrenheit 9/11" garner an Oscar nod? Is the Hollywood crowd wising up to the limited appeal of extremism, or has Moore worn out his welcome?

With characteristic zeal, Moore campaigned vigorously for a best picture nomination.

"He was at every Oscar party and screening," said Moore's former manager Douglas Urbanski, a critically acclaimed 25-year veteran of the entertainment industry most recently known for the movie "The Contender," starring Gary Oldman, Joan Allen and Jeff Bridges. "He took out full page ads, cut his hair, bathed and even wore a suit. [Moore was] very present around town."

But the Hollywood elite turned up their surgically sculpted noses at Moore's flick. Urbanski explained that Hollywood has had it with Moore. Many blame him for provoking conservative voters and contributing to John Kerry's defeat in the presidential election. He's become the No. 1 favorite target of leftists.

"In certain [Hollywood] circles he is a shutout," Urbanski said.

Why would Moore's former manager be so forthcoming in his criticism?

"Michael Moore makes a substantial living going into peoples' private lives. Sneaking up on them," Urbanski said. So Urbanski feels no compunction in talking about the only client he ever fired. In fact, he fired Moore with a 10-page letter.

"A more dishonest and demented person I have never met," Urbanski wrote me in an e-mail, "and I have known a few! And he is more money obsessed than any I have known, and that's saying a lot."

Urbanski believes that Moore hates America, hates capitalism and hates any normal concept of freedom and democracy. This seems odd, considering that if it weren't for America, freedom and capitalism Moore's brand of expression and capitalistic success would be impossible, if not illegal.

"Michael Moore could not withstand Michael Moore's scrutiny for more than 15 seconds," Urbanski said.

Has Hollywood figured out what Moore is really about? Was that why he was snubbed?

Urbanski has given some thought to Moore's methods. "Moore has an interesting racket. A Jesse Jackson-like shakedown. He figured out he could shake down his own type of thinker, his own constituency, for his own enrichment."

Did Moore lose his golden boy status because of Kerry's defeat? The land of Hollywood is harsh, and they have been known to devour their young for lesser offenses. Or was it his nasty methods that did him in?

History is known to be the best indicator of future behavior, so Hollywood should beware. Moore may turn his camera on them. Maybe he'll call the film, "Hell Hath No Fury Like a Narcissist Scorned."

Regardless, let's hope that the Democratic Party will be more discriminating of whom they seat with a former president like Jimmy Carter at their next convention. And hopefully we'll all wise up to snake-oil hucksters such as Moore, who will say or do anything to make a buck.

If Michael Moore is a narcissist, I'd hate to see what he'd look like if he didn't care about himself and let his appearance go.

El Tejon, you obviously didn't see him on The Tonight Show. He wore a suit, shaved (sortof), and I think somebody combed his hair for him. He even made an attempt to sit up straight!

He should have joined Weight Watchers and dropped a bunch of pounds. Hollywood does not like fat people, "thin is in" and all that.

As a practical matter, Fahrenheit 9/11 was a colossal failure. It was a propaganda tool, made for a specific purpose, that didn't do the job. Bush did better this election than the last one by millions of votes.

It made lots of cash, but as it turns out the viewers were basically people who already agreed with Moore, who were engaging in a sort of politicized cinematic masturbation.

Well, Moore is funny kind of like the way Fat Elvis was funny.

I guess that's more of an embarassing funny :p

Yet, of all hollywood celebrities, he is the one I would like most to meet face-to-face. One, to test my own self-restraint. Two, to see if he really has the stones to look me in the eye with his mouth open.

I don't hate any man, but Moore approaches the limits of my detest.

When I went to see that movie, just to see what all the hype was about, I made sure to pay for a different movie, so he wouldn't get the money.

I didn't know Michael Moore did comedy though. The supporters in the theater didn't particularly like me laughing at all the BS.

You know this movie is peddled as being about guns but Moore makes no point in the movie about guns having anything to do with crime. In fact, he proves the opposite by studying Canada and noting how many guns are up there yet they don't have the violent crime problem that the US does. He did the same thing with Fahrenheit 9/11, he doesn't make any substantial point throughout the entire movie except to splice together a few tactfully cut pieces of footage to make the people he disagrees with look stupid.

Sometimes I wonder if all the people that champion these movies as statements of their cause have even watched them or can understand them. Moore is an utter failure at making documentaries, it's just more shock-value knee-jerk fabricated junk.

Michael Moore

I've always thought that if it weren't for the Liberal Lefties supporting him and the crap he puts out, he'd be sleeping in alleys and living out of a push cart.

Moore is irrelevant. Let's all pledge to stop talking about him and let him fade off into oblivion. If we ignore him, he'll go away, since he's an egotist who thrives on manufactured controversy.

...Moore hates America, hates capitalism and hates any normal concept of freedom and democracy. This seems odd, considering that if it weren't for America, freedom and capitalism Moore's brand of expression and capitalistic success would be impossible, if not illegal.

Some people never outgrow temper tantrums.

Snubbed?

His 'career' needs to be snuffed.

If he were a real documentary film maker, he'd be doing both sides of the issue, but I expound the obvious.

Perhaps the American publik, even the libs, aren't as dumb & tasteless as Moore would wish. :barf:
