Here's my latest Detroit Gun Rights article on today's Attorney General ruling that allows Michigan residents to own silencers.

Michigan AG ruling now allows Michigan residents to own firearm silencers

"Many Michigan gun ranges may soon get quieter as Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today issued an opinion that Michigan residents may own firearm silencers as long as all Federal laws are followed.

A firearm silencer, also called a suppressor, reduces the sound of a firearm's discharge noticeably. This reduces the danger to the shooter's hearing caused by the report and also reduces the ambient gun shot noise in the area."

..read more at the link in the headline.

There was a time when car mufflers weren't required. Now they're mandatory. What would happen if someday in the future firearm sound suppressors were made mandatory? Further, if the NFA rules remain as they are, wouldn't this be a "backdoor" means of gun registration, and a great impediment to gun ownership? I can see a social stigma being attached to those who shoot without a sound suppressor, in the same way that a stigma might attach to those who have illicit "unprotected" sex. Be careful what you wish for.

Just told my wife the good news, but she is less than enthusiastic...

Until she shoots one!

It is a step in the right direction. But it is an opinion, and only that, until it is reviewed by court of law. And his successor can nullify the opinion if it hasn't been reviewed.

This has been so popular on the migunowners.com site that their server just went down.

Congrats Michigan!
