For anyone living in MI, please contact your state representative and senator ASAP to urge them to OPPOSE the following bills. If this seems like a lot, it is. They are that tyrannical and coming hard for our rights.

Bills that would ban guns in large portions of the state:
  • HB 4149 and HB 4150: Expands "gun-free zones" to include all buildings owned or leased by the state (e.g. highway rest areas, state park buildings, etc.). This may also include DNR shooting ranges.
  • HB 4127: Ban guns at polling places and within 100' of any entrance to a building in which a polling place is located. Bans guns for 2 weeks within 100' from any entrance to a building in which an early voting site is located. Bans guns from within 100' of any absentee ballot drop box for 40 days before ANY election (no exception for public walkways, public roads, etc.)
  • HB 4128: Bans guns from within 100' of any absentee ballot box (no exception for public walkways, public roads, etc.) while ballots are being counted.
  • HB 4198, SB 0208: Eliminate preemption of local firearm regulations, meaning local governments can make their own gun ordinances/bans. Currently, the state constitutional right to keep and bear arms applies in every city/town. If this passes, it would be a patchwork of varying local gun ordinances.
  • HB 4205 and HB 4206: Prohibit open carry of "assault weapons" within 1,000 feet of a federal, state, county, or local government building, courthouse, or school.
    • "Assault weapon" includes the following:
      • Belt fed
      • Semi-auto rifle with detachable magazine and any of:
        • Folding or telescoping stock
        • Barrel shroud or anything that partially or completely encircles the barrel and allows the shooter to hold the firearm with their "nontrigger" hand without being burned (not sure if this includes rail systems, etc.)
      • Semi-auto pistol with detachable magazine and any of:
        • Folding or telescoping stock
        • Barrel shroud or anything that partially or completely encircles the barrel and allows the shooter to hold the firearm with their "nontrigger" hand without being burned (not sure if this includes rail systems, etc.)
        • Can accept a detachable magazine at a location outside of the pistol grip
        • Detachable shoulder stock
      • Semi-auto shotgun with:
        • Folding or telescoping stock
        • Contains ammunition in a revolving cylinder
        • Can accept a detachable magazine of over 5 rounds
"Red Flag" Order Bills:
  • HB 4146, SB 0084: Prohibit purchase of firearms if an individual has an "extreme risk protection" (i.e. "red flag") order. There is no due process prior to the "red flag" confiscation of firearms of someone against whom an accusation of being an imminent threat is made (unlike current adjudication of mental defect laws).
Restricting The Ability of Law-abiding Citizens to Purchase Firearms:
  • HB 4138, HB 4142, HB 4143, SB 0076, SB 0077, SB 0078: Requires obtaining a license to purchase any firearm. Mandates "universal" background checks. Effectively bans private firearms transfers.
  • HB 4211: Implement a 14-day waiting period for all firearm purchases.
  • HB 4203 and HB 4204: Change age requirement such that it is illegal to purchase or own a firearm under 21 years of age.
"Safe Storage" Bills:
  • HB 4144, SB 0079: "Safe storage" bill (i.e. penalties if you don't)
    • If violated and death results: 15 year, $7,500 felony
    • If violated and injury results: 5 year, $5,000 felony
    • If violated and no injury results: 93 days prison, $500, misdemeanor
Other Bills:
  • HB 4243: Civil liability for a person who sells, delivers, or transfers a firearm to a prohibited person. Mandates FFLs to have certain liability insurance essentially against the purchaser misusing the firearm. This seems to basically put dealers "on the hook" more than they already are for the actions of violent criminals.
  • HB 4184: Prohibit unaccompanied minors from possessing certain BB/pellet guns outside of their property.
