There are several bills that are now out of committee and there is
significant opposition to these bills, from various sources. Gun
owners must contact their legislators to let them know how important
these bills are. If we're going to get these passed, we have to work
harder than the other side is to make it happen.

Please see the information below and please pass this along to others
on your email lists.

These bills have all passed out of Committee. Calls to individual
legislators are now needed.
SB 792 Parking lot Bill
SB 793 Pistol transport for any lawful purpose

The Senate leadership needs to know just how important these Bills
are to the firearms community. Members need to contact Senators
Bishop, Cropsey and Barcia. There is significant opposition from
corporate interests building on the Senate side. Michigan Chamber of
Commerce has been silent this time out.

HB 5302 Parking lots
HB 5303 Pistol transport for any lawful purpose

Dear Mr. N*****,

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for House Bills 5302 and 5303, which would allow people to keep their firearms in their vehicles while parked at their place of employment and remove the definition of “lawful purpose” in regard to the transportation of a pistol.

As someone who grew up in mid-Michigan, I support the right to hunt and bear arms, and agree that there are many responsible gun owners in this state. That said, I also feel strongly that private businesses should have the right to decide whether to allow guns on their premises based on the nature of their work and their willingness to incur such a liability. At the same time, I have grave concerns about removing the definition of “lawful purpose” in House Bill 5303, which will undoubtedly increase the transportation of firearms, and thus heighten the chance that even the most responsible gun owner could have his or her pistol stolen and used in such a way that could cause immense tragedy.

Once again, thank you for contacting me. If you have any questions, or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 517-373-2577 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Rebekah Warren

State Representative

53rd District
